A Chance Meeting at Golden 8 Ball
We had the pleasure of meeting Stan and his dad, Nigel, at the recent Golden 8 Ball Festival of Pool - the UK’s biggest and most popular team event, proudly sponsored by Cue + Case and Baize Master (www.golden8ball.co.uk).
The introduction came courtesy of Jim from Lynch’s Cue Balm, who invited Stan and Nigel to attend, soak up the atmosphere, and play a few friendly frames. But what really stood out wasn’t just Stan’s talent - it was the humility, warmth, and generosity both he and his dad brought with them.
Stan didn’t just attend - he connected. He chatted with folk, posed for photos, and jumped on the table to play casual frames with many different aspiring novice players. One special highlight? A spontaneous challenge match against G8B’s youngest ever junior player, Sting Ray (Ray Walmsley), who is just 6 years old. Stan took on the pint-sized prodigy in front of a buzzing crowd - it absolutely made Ray’s Day and created a memory that will last a lifetime.
That chance encounter with the Moody father-and-son duo said it all - so when the opportunity arose to partner with Stan, we jumped at it.
