Fresh off sealing his place at the Crucible (and a couple of days in bed following his hospital admission for tonsillitis and quinsy), Stan Moody stopped by Cue + Case HQ for a quick catch-up, a signing session, and time with the team before the biggest match of his career.
It’s been a fast turnaround. From that deciding-frame century in qualifying to booking his place at the World Championship, everything has moved quickly. In person, though, he’s exactly as you’d expect. Calm, focused, and already thinking about the next match.
There was a real buzz around the building, with the team keen to congratulate him, get something signed, and wish him well ahead of his opener against Kyren Wilson. Stan also took the time to sign a number of Baize Master cues for collectors, adding to the occasion.

The Journey to Pro Player
We caught up with Stan for a quick Q&A while he was in, and his answers give a good insight into how he’s handling the step up.
On turning professional, Stan pointed to the shift in mindset as the biggest change.
“I think the biggest thing is the difference in mindsets, going from a hobby to a job, while still trying to enjoy it at the same time.”
When it comes to motivation, it’s always come naturally to him.
“I never really needed to motivate myself. I’ve always enjoyed playing, just loved hitting balls and wanted to achieve my dreams and do well.”
Handling pressure is something he keeps simple, even against more experienced players.
“I don’t really think about my opponent, I just think about what I can do. I play my game, play well and do what I can do.”
The biggest mental adjustment has been adapting to how unforgiving the professional game can be.
“You’re not going to get as many chances. If you miss, it can be frame over, and you might be sat down for two or three frames. You’ve got to stay positive, stay in your zone and be ready when you get back to the table.”
We also asked about some of his standout wins so far, including victories over top-level opposition.
“It was amazing. John and Kyren are top players. Jiang’s not quite there yet, but that one meant the most because it got me to the Crucible.”

Stan's Crucible Debut
The draw itself is a tough one. Kyren Wilson brings experience and a strong Crucible record. But Stan’s run so far shows he can handle pressure and stick to his game when it matters.
For us, it’s a proud moment seeing him reach this stage. As sponsors, we’ve followed his journey closely, and now he’s preparing for his first match at the Crucible. A big step, and one he’s earned.
We’ll be right behind him in Sheffield.
Good luck, Stan.
