The opportunity for the Olympic games in Tokyo 2020.

Dec 8th 2014, IOC has adopted “OLYMPIC Agenda 2020”, the strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic movement, and it is officially included that host city Tokyo is able to propose the inclusion of one or more sports. There are 11 candidates and the Cue Sports is a part of it.

By the end of April, assessment criteria of each proposed new sport will be prepared. Tokyo organizers will then have time to examine the material before proposing which additional events they wish to add by September 2015. Several other sports such as squash, karate, roller sports, skateboarding, surfing, wushu, rock climbing are lobbying for a spot on the Tokyo program and NBA ,Japanese Billiard Association has also started appealing.

Not just the people of Japan, the whole world is looking at this process. As many sports are interested, this is going to be a very transparent process. Universality and gender equality is the key in selecting new sports or events, but the IOC will also consider an up-and-coming sport that is gaining in popularity especially with youth.

Among the other candidates, Cue Sports has been broadened and forming associations in 134 countries worldwide but may not be as known how popular it is in public.
